A Grayling Caught by Philip December 2025.

Fortunately the rain stopped during the drive towards Hampshire for a day’s fishing on a stretch of the River Test that flows through the Wherwell Estate. The skies cleared and the sun shone throughout the day!

The Wherwell Estate Fishery not only includes a lengthy stretch of the River Test but several carrier streams so there is plenty of fishable water to explore.

A stealthy bankside approach was required due to the crystal clear water. Many fish could been seen but they were easily spooked with the slightest movement! The morning was spent fishing upstream on beats 10 and 11 with beats 9 and 10 in the afternoon. Using a variety of size 14 nymphs I managed to catch a nice but damaged grayling,  a wild brown trout and two rainbows of about 3lbs each.
