Phil & Charles fishing for Sewin on  the River Teifi   July 2021

Having gained some experience in catching sewin on the Teifi near Llandysul in 2019,  I decided again to try my luck at this ‘dark art’ at the end of June this year with Charles Lowe. The Teifi is a beautiful river that can hold some big sewin and salmon with over 30 miles of fishing available!  However, the river conditions did not bode well as the river was flowing low and clear. Still we tried our luck on the Dolgogwls beat on the first night of arrival. Once the bats had started to fly we both fished some notable pools and runs at varying depths with standard sea trout lures. I finally hooked a sewin at around 1pm but failed to land it after several jumps when it then shook the hook! We both retired to the hotel around 2pm. Our second night on a different beat proved equally fruitless. In contrast, the daytime fishing for wild brown trout was an absolute delight with both of us catching a number of beautiful brownies on nymphs and dry flies over several miles of this beautiful river.
